Digital Effects Supervisor Sony Pictures Imageworks
Sean Phillips, digital effects supervisor at Sony Pictures Imageworks, currently is working on Beowulf for director Robert Zemeckis. In this role, Phillips is responsible for overseeing the technical aspects and work flow of the entire pipeline while assisting in the creative and aesthetic direction of all shots.
Phillips most recently was digital effects supervisor on Open Season, the first feature from Sony Pictures Animation. Prior to Open Season, Phillips served as the digital effects supervisor on the groundbreaking film The Polar Express, also for director Robert Zemeckis. He joined Sony Pictures Imageworks in 2001 as a CG supervisor on Stuart Little 2.
Phillips was previously at Walt Disney Feature Animation where he helped develop the muscle and skinning system used in the film Dinosaur and on subsequent Disney projects.
Phillips' earliest movie work was at Boss Film Studios in Los Angeles. His credits while there include digital effects supervisor on Waterworld, technical advisor on Species, and digital effects supervisor on Outbreak.
He began his career in visual effects doing 3D graphics and paint at a post production house in his home state of Michigan.
Phillips holds a BS degree in engineering arts, with an application area of industrial design, from Michigan State University.
