At Sony Pictures Imageworks, we established a dynamic community of artists,
filmmakers and storytellers where all of us work together with the latest
technology and tools to produce the next evolution of entertainment. It's
an environment where ideas are valued and new visions are created.
That something hasn't been done before is reason enough to begin figuring
out how to do it. It's on that edge of possibility that great ideas are
born.
It's part of the reason why top visual effects supervisors like Rob Legato,
John Dykstra, and Pat McClung have joined Ken Ralston,
Jerome Chen, and Sheena Duggal on the creative team. What they know is
that it's a combination of great projects, great people and a great place
that makes Imageworks special. When you're looking to make your mark, it's
important to have the right team.
Imageworks is now one of the pre-eminent digital character animation and
visual effects companies in the world. We got here by appreciating the
possibilities of human imagination and creating an environment where
talented individuals can pursue their dreams.
Sony Pictures Imageworks is an award-winning, state-of-the-art digital production company dedicated to the art and artistry of visual effects and computer animation.
The company has lent its groundbreaking talent and technology to such films as Charlie's Angels, Hollow Man, What Lies Beneath, Stuart Little, Big Daddy, Patch Adams, Snow Falling on Cedars, Godzilla, City of Angels, Contact, Anaconda, Michael, The Ghost and the Darkness , James and the Giant Peach and the Academy AwardŽ-nominated Starship Troopers.
Imageworks is currently working on "Spider-Man,"
directed by Sam Raimi with John Dykstra as senior visual effects supervisor
and Karen Goulekas, visual effects supervisor, "Cast Away," directed by
Robert Zemeckis with Ken Ralston as the senior visual effects supervisor,
"Stuart Little II," the sequel to the hit film, with Jerome Chen
supervising visual effects, and "Harry Potter," on which Rob Legato is the
visual effects supervisor.
Imageworks continues to redefine the role of digital effects in feature films. From the creation of photo-real, three-dimensional, performance-based characters to celestial journeys across the universe, Imageworks artists bring filmmakers? visions to the screen. More and more, Imageworks is working with filmmakers earlier in the development cycle of feature film projects to explore the outer boundaries of possibility and invent new and novel situations and techniques.
Imageworks has grown exponentially since its inception in terms of physical size, artistic talent and digital infrastructure. With the arrival of Ken Ralston in late 1995 as its president and Tim Sarnoff in 1997 as its executive vice president and general manager, the company now has over 350 artists, engineers, technicians and support staff housed in a 120,000 square foot facility designed by and for the next generation of digital production.
Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment (SPDE), an operating unit of Sony Pictures
Entertainment (SPE), oversees the activities of SPE's digital production and online
assets which include Sony Pictures Imageworks, Sony Online Entertainment and
Columbia Tri-Star Interactive. SPDE focuses on three areas: 1) producing and developing
visual effects and computer-generated imaging (CGI), digital character animation, and
original content for motion picture, television, online and PlayStation audiences; 2) tapping
SPE's film and television libraries and its talent relationships to develop new forms of online
content, games and interactive programming; and 3) leading SPE's efforts to provide
video-on-demand, interactive television and the distribution of other forms of digital content
and services over the emerging broadband networks.
